Out in the City
A traveling outdoor school
Out in the City are outdoor education workshops designed to bring those outdoor knowledge and skills to those who live in the city. There's a lack of transportation options that go from cities to Regional, State, or National Parks, so it's difficult to learn outdoor skills without being outdoors. Out in the City solves that problem.
Mt. Near App
Carpool with a hiking expert
The multi-faceted Mt. Near App aims to create a community of hikers from the city. This app brings together beginner and expert hikers by providing resources for outdoor learning, hike planning, and trip carpooling. This solution is designed for who don't have adequate transportation to outdoor spaces.
Get Out & Go
A series of guidebooks
The Get Out & Go are an illustrated set of guidebooks that provide easy-to-understand instructions for the beginner to learn to hike, camp, and backpack. The guidebooks provide a first step to learning about topographic maps, permits, outdoor gear, and many other areas of outdoor recreation.
Research and Strategy
A study commissioned by the National Park Services found that of all the people that visit National Parks, only about 17% of them were people of color. We conducted our own research and explored many reasons of why there is this lack of diversity in outdoor spaces and designed solutions to address those barriers.
Mt. Near design solutions are based off of extensive research and analysis of the history and culture of the outdoor space amongst various demographics. Read more about the process.
